Item 23--week 9--copyright

There was so much that I hadn't tried to use before that it is hard to pick a favorite. I liked flickr and the idea of using wikis. I'm sure there are more programs on the mashups that will be great resources. Of course I loved Library Thing too.

This program has got me to take the time to see what else is out on the internet instead of staying with the comfortable things I've already come across. I'm sure I'll be referring back to the pages to bring up the sites again when I come across something it fits perfectly with.

I had high expectations of the program, so I don't think I was surprised by anything that I discovered. I don't have any suggestions for improvement. I think I would participate in the future, because I need to stay current and things change so fast that it would be a great way to keep up with what is new.

This was a great way to get an overall view of the current tools available on the web.

Item 22, week 9--Project Gutenberg

I looked at Project Gutenberg when it first started and was very excited about the idea. I was glad to see how much they have added and the variety of material there. I checked out the audiobooks (I love to have a book to listen to in the car) and downloaded a couple. And I think I'll talk my daughter into becoming a proof-reader with me!

Item 21, week 9--podcasts

The first thing that caught my eye was something about working from home. It was obviously an advertisement and I switched it off after a couple of minutes. The next one was titled "Master Reader." It was an advertisement for a speed reading coarse, and I was becoming frustrated with advertising rather than information. Then I hit a great site on the Education Podcast Network under Tech Tip Tuesday. It was short and to the point and you could see topics and pick the one you are looking for. No advertising, and only one topic was covered on the podcast. I subscribed to it and found that he listed several other sites of the same genre to look at when he hasn't covered the topic you are interested in. I think this will be a very valuable site for me! The picture is of the two-year-old techie in our house.

Item 20, week 9--You Tube

You could spend a lot of time on You Tube! There were some high quality clips there, many pointless clips, and a lot of things I wouldn't want my children to have access to! I decided to search for quilting advice and found much more than I expected. I tried a favorite author and found many clips with him in it too. So I can recommend Pat Sloan's advice on machine quilting and Bill Bryson's clip about the Charms of the British.

Item 19, week 8--Library Thing

Library Thing is a lot of fun!

I checked out some other lists with similar interests to see things I have missed, and tried to think of how I might be able to use it with the library at school. Most of my choices are favorites that I have read several times (ie older) and I was surprised at how many people had them on their lists too.

Item 18, Week 8--Online productivity

Zoho writer does sound like a great way to be able to access your documents from any location. It has all the features of a good word processor and the advantages of collaboration and access.
And it even has my favorite font!

Between assignments I've been travelling with my family, so I've added a pic of the New York skyline.

Item 17, Week 7--Sandbox Wikis

What a great resource! I'm sure that whatever I need to do this year, I'll be able to find some inspiration on this list of ideas. I take a group of students to Reading Olympics every year and I'm thinking that I might start out with them to see how difficult it will be to set it up and teach them to use it. I always have them write practice questions on the books they have read and this would be a great way to inspire them to get it done (I usually have to nag a little to actually get the questions written down).
